About our School

VISION

YIS will prepare students for higher levels of learning and to be responsible global citizens. Students will develop a special appreciation of the Myanmar culture and demonstrate respect to all cultures.

YIS graduates will be able to make a significant contribution and service to the development of their home country and community and be life-long learners.

MISSION

Yangon International School is a college preparatory school that seeks to foster the development of the whole child, who is a participating global citizen and lifelong learner: one who is academically well-prepared, socially responsible, culturally sensitive, and personally fulfilled.

2004

2004-2005

Yangon International School is founded by U Tin Maung Win and his family under ILBC. ILBC and YIS become the largest educational provider in Myanmar next to the government, preparing students to be leaders and citizens ready for the future.

2009

2008-2009

YIS is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. In 2009, the first graduating class leaves YIS and Myanmar for universities in the United States, Singapore, and the United Kingdom.

2015

2014-2015

YIS celebrates its 10th anniversary and is re-accredited by WASC. The Lower Elementary Campus opens in the fall of 2015, serving students in Early Childhood to Grade 2.

Now

2019-2020

The new middle school annex opens at the Main Campus, giving Grade 6-8 students their own space. YIS announces plans to build a state-of-the-art, future-ready campus two kilometers from the current school buildings. The school begins to prepare to seek IB DP authorization.

Our School
Established in 2004, YIS is well-established as a top school in Yangon and in Myanmar. We count 268 alumni graduates among our success stories!
Individualized Learning

From Lower Elementary to High School, our students have opportunities to enrich their learning through clubs, After School Activities, sports teams, leadership, and service.
University Placement
YIS graduates have been offered acceptance to more than 200 universities around the world, including in the USA, UK, EU, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Australia, India, Canada, and Hong Kong. Others have entered military service or taken gap years to volunteer or do internships.
